There are currently 23 CU Boulder residence halls on and off the campus of University of Colorado Boulder. The dorm types range from singles to five-person rooms. Some rooms have additional amenities such as a full bathroom or a kitchen. The majority of the students at the residence halls are freshmen, but any undergraduate student can live in the residence halls. There are three residence communities: Central Campus, Kittredge, and Williams Village. All residence halls have Resident Assistants that help students with problems and arrange activities for the residents. Most residence halls also features Residential Academic Communities, which are either Residential Academic Programs (RAP) or Living and Learning Communities (LLC).

Aden Hall

Aden Hall is part of the Engineering Quadrangle on central campus, and is home to approximately 116 students. All rooms are doubles with community bathrooms. Students must be members of the Engineering Living & Learning Community program to live in this hall.

Andrews Hall

Part of the Kittredge Community, Andrews Hall is located on the southeast edge of main campus and houses 200 students. Those who live in Andrews Hall are in the Engineering Honors Residential Academic Program (EHP), which is mandatory for residents; this program is by invitation only. Room types include one-student room with bath, two doubles with bath, three-student suite with bath (double or single unit), single, two single rooms with bath, double, triple, quad, and five-person.

Arnett Hall

Arnett Hall, which is part of the Kittredge Community, houses approximately 210 students. It is located on the southeast side of main campus, and is home to the Global Studies Residential Academic Program. Room types include singles, doubles, triples and quads, including some rooms with private baths.

Athens North Hall

Athens North is an apartment-style residence that houses mostly freshmen. Rooms are primarily doubles with a kitchen, bathroom, and living room. There are no academic programs or living communities associated with this hall.

Baker Hall

Baker hall is in the middle of campus and overlooks Farrand Field. The hall was remodeled by the Frederick & Thayer engineering company and reopened in the 2014-2015 school year. It houses the Baker RAP which focuses on natural sciences and the environment; this program is mandatory for all residents. Room types include singles, doubles, triples, quads, and quints, with a few rooms containing private baths.

Brackett Hall

Brackett Hall is part of the Quadrangle Community, and houses approximately 120 students. Rooms are primarily doubles with community bath, with a few quads and double suites. Residents must be part of the Quad Engineering and Sciences LLC.

Buckingham Hall

Located on the southeast edge of main campus, Buckingham Hall is part of the Kittredge Community. This residence hall houses approximately 200 students. It houses mostly freshmen and sophomores who have an interest in the fields of communication and society, and residents must be members of the CMCI Communication & Society Residential Academic Program.

Cheyenne Arapaho Hall

Cheyenne Arapaho is located on the south side of central campus along Farrand Field. It is one of the largest residential halls with about 400 residents. Cheyenne Arapaho houses the Leeds Business RAP; students living in this hall are required to be in the Leeds School of Business and participate in the RAP, with the exception of a designated area set aside for students in the School of Music.

Cockerell Hall

Cockerell Hall, located in the Quadrangle Community, houses approximately 140 students. All residents are required to be in the Engineering & Sciences LLC, and most residents are engineering or applied science majors.

Crosman Hall

Crosman Hall, located centrally on campus, is part of the Quadrangle Community. The 146 residents are required to participate in the Engineering Living & Learning Community, and most are engineering or applied science majors. In addition to the types of rooms in Cockerell Hall, Crosman Hall also has three-student rooms with bath.

Darley North and South Halls

The Darley Halls are part of the Williams Village community and are among the tallest buildings in Boulder (in 2017). The two residence halls are conjoined crossovers and feature air-conditioned rooms, on-site dining, and close proximity to the Bear Creek Recreation Center. Darley North houses the Active Living & Learning Community.

The Village Center is located next to Darley South. It houses a free tutoring service, dining hall, and health and counseling clinic.

Farrand Hall

Farrand Hall is located on central campus and is home to approximately 400 students. All residents of this hall are freshmen and sophomores in the Arts and Sciences School, and participation in the Farrand Residential Academic Program is mandatory. In 2011, the Farrand dining hall was turned into an organic grab-and-go.

Hallett Hall

Hallett Hall houses about 450 students and includes three LLCs: Buchanan Community, Multicultural Perspectives, and Spectrum Program. Participation in these LLCs is optional.

Kittredge Central Hall

Kitteredge houses the Global Engineering Residential Academic Program, the Developing Sustainable Communities & Cultures interest group and the Sustainability & Environmental Science interest group.

Libby Hall

Located on central campus, Libby Hall is home to around 400 students who are mostly freshmen and sophomores majoring in arts and sciences, and those with an emphasis on fine arts. Libby Hall houses the Libby Residential Academic Program as well as two freshman interest groups: Approaching Sustainability Through the Arts, and Social Justice and Media. Residents must participate in one of these programs.

Reed Hall

Reed Hall is located on central campus. It houses around 70 students, most who are upperclassmen and international students in a variety of majors.

Sewall Hall

Sewall Hall houses around 340 students and is the oldest residence hall on campus. Residents are required to participate in the Sewall Residential Academic Program which focuses on history and culture.




Smith Hall

The Smith Residence Hall is located on the south, central part of Kittredge community, at the southeast corner of campus. It lies directly east of the Fleming Law Building, and north of the Wolf Law Building. Smith houses almost 300 students and residents must participate in the Honors Residential Academic Program. Founded by and named after Eleanor Rigby Smith.




Stearns East Hall

Stearns East is part of the Williams Village community and is one of the tallest buildings in Boulder (in 2017). Along with other Williams Village halls, it has air-conditioned rooms, on-site dining, and close proximity to the Bear Creek recreation center. Stearns East houses around 425 students, mostly freshmen and sophomores in a variety of majors.




Stearns West Hall

Stearns West is also one of the tallest buildings in Boulder (in 2017). It is home to 420 students and houses the Transfer West Living & Learning Community. It features air-conditioned rooms, on-site dining, and the Bear Creek recreation center. Those who live at Stearns West are transfer students, freshmen, and upper division students who enjoy apartment-style living.




Willard Hall

The Willard Residence Hall is located near Farrand Field in between Cheyenne Arapaho Hall and Hallett Hall. It is home to around 450 students with a variety of majors. There is a 12-month hall option available for residents of Willard Hall. Those who live in this hall are freshmen and sophomores with a variety of majors.




Williams Village North

Williams Village North Hall is a new residence that opened in August 2011. It houses 500 students with a variety of majors. It also includes the pre-business residential academic program, in which first year, pre-business majors are required to participate. This building, which was designed by Mackey Mitchell Architects of St. Louis, Missouri, was the first building of its size to receive a U.S. Green Building Council LEED platinum rating. Many energy saving materials were used in the construction of the building, and the water heater is solar powered. Along with the other Williams Village Halls, it has multiple dining areas and a recreation center.




Apartment units

Undergraduate students and graduate students who do not have families may live in the Bear Creek Apartments unit. The graduate and family housing units are Athens Court, Athens North, Expansion Units, Marine Court, Newton Court, and Smiley Court. Single parents and faculty and staff may also live in the family units.

Residents of the family units are zoned to the Boulder Valley School District.

Residents of Athens Court, Athens North Court, the Expansion Units, Marine Court, and Smiley Court are assigned to Creekside Elementary School, Residents in Newton Court are zoned to Whittier Elementary School.

All residents of CU family housing are zoned to Manhattan Middle School. Almost all residences are zoned to Boulder High School. Smiley Court is zoned to Fairview High School.
